LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Arson investigators are working the scene of a fire that broke out in an apartment building on S. 3rd Street Friday morning they said they believe was intentionally set.
Firefighters were called to the scene around 9 a.m. and quickly had the fire under control. By the time Sky11 arrived over the area, the fire was out.
Two people were inside the apartment where the fire started. Firefighters said one of the people, a man, was upstairs asleep in a bedroom when he woke up to someone yelling fire. They said the man came out of the bedroom, saw smoke and went back into the room where he injured himself trying to break out a window.
The man did make it out of the apartment and was transported to University Hospital for treatment. He is expected to be OK.
Investigators said they do not have any suspects yet, and would not comment on why they believe the fire was set intentionally but did say it started in an unusual place.
Fourteen people were displaced because of the fire, but a spokesperson for the complex said they have enough empty units to accommodate them.
