LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A federal agency says it will speed disaster assistance to Pike County in eastern Kentucky.

U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan said Monday that the federal aid will help homeowners and low-income renters forced from their homes following recent severe storms, flooding and mudslides.

HUD says it’s offering the state the ability to reallocate existing federal resources toward disaster relief.

The agency says it’s also granting an immediate 90-day moratorium on foreclosures of Federal Housing Administration-insured home mortgages.

Last week, President Barack Obama issued a disaster declaration for Pike County.
