(WHAS11) -- Behind many Christmas packages are the workers delivering them.

“It’s just Dennis and the boxes,” FedEx courier Dennis Conklin said. “It’s up to me to get it done.”

Conklin has been a courier for FedEx for 26 years. Monday is the busiest day of the year for the shipping giant. FedEx says they will ship upwards of 19 million packages, a record breaking number that’s more than double their typical daily volume.

“You get on the road, and it’s up to you to get the work done,” Conklin said.

FedEx has hired extra people to help with the higher demand, as well as rented extra vehicles. Rogge Johnston, the Operations Manager at the FedEx Express on Breckenridge Lane told WHAS11 News that while they are ready for the extra work, there are things you can do to make their job easier.

Make sure you have the right box size before you ship, and be sure to fill out the addresses completely. Also make sure your items inside your packages are secured.

The last day to ship for Christmas delivery via FedEx ground is next Monday December 17. If you plan to use FedEx Express, ship your package by December 22 to ensure it will arrive before Christmas.
