LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – During this Memorial Day weekend, the men and women who serve or have served this country are being honored.
Many times when the ultimate price is paid, it’s the parents who are forced to bury their children.
Gary Ramsey is among those parents.
He visited his son Cpl. Gary Dwayne Ramsey at Zachary Taylor National Cemetery Sunday afternoon as he does every Memorial Day Weekend.
“It’s just like you lose a part of your life whenever they are gone, you know. And this brings back a lot of memories; we live memories all the time. You can never get over it. You can get through it but you can never get over it,” Ramsey said.
Ramsey’s son was killed in 2002 during a freak accident while working for the Army Corp of Engineers.
Cpl. Ramsey served in the Army for 8 years while seeing battle in the Persian Gulf War.
He was from Trimble County and left behind a wife and two sons.
