LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A Louisville teenager is in jail and police are searching for another suspect in the city's first homicide of 2014. It happened on Monday night, Jan. 6, in the 6000 block of Guardian Court off Preston Highway.
Police say 34-year-old Brian Przybylek was killed in a botched robbery.
Przybylek is being remembered on Tuesday, Jan. 7, as a man that was dedicated to his girlfriend and his loyal dog Roby.
His family did not want to speak on camera but say they don't know why he was even at Guardian Court. But police say he was there for a drug transaction but Justen Tandy and another man planned to rob him instead.
"The victim received a phone call from the suspects. They had pre-arranged meeting in regards to a narcotics transaction. We believe that the suspects planned to rob the victim when he arrived," Lt Todd Kessinger, with the LMPD, said.
The men struggled and Przybylek was shot in chest and died. Tandy was arrested. Police say the suspects and victim knew each other or worked together apparently.
"Everything that we have seen so far suggests that there were conversations prior to the meeting,” Kessinger said.
While police search for a second suspect Przybylek's family struggles with what actually happened. They sent us this statement:
"He was a loving son. He loved life. He loved animals and he cared about people and he wanted to help anybody he could."
