LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A special ceremony was held at a Labor Day picnic in Lake Dreamland Park.

A rededication ceremony was held by re-planting a tree that had been damaged in memory of a teen that died in an ATV crash.

“The ground wasn’t right so the fire department replanted the tree and then they did some work it killed the tree. So they had another tree planted,” the victim’s mother Brenda Maddox said.

Tommy Maddox was a cadet volunteer for the Lake Dreamland Fire Department. He was killed in July 1998.

That year, a special tree was planted in his honor. In the fall of last year, the tree was damaged accidentally.

Maddox was a student at Western High School.
