(WHAS11) -- Kentucky State Police say Hugo Martinez, 37, was killed after a fight with his wife. They blame his teenage stepson for the crime.

"Yeah I heard the gunfire. I was eating supper and I looked up," eyewitness and neighbor, Roger Pile, said.

Pile described what he saw outside of his front door. Martinez was shot to death.

Pile says Martinez's 17-year-old stepson gunned down Martinez on the front porch at point blank range. The teen is now charged with manslaughter.

"He backed up staggered back two steps and fell to the ground. The boy was standing up on the porch beside him," Pile said.

Kentucky State Police say Martinez was fighting with his wife when her son grabbed the rifle.

Kentucky State Trooper Norman Chaffins said, "He was dragging her around in the yard and the juvenile went to the residence obtained the weapon and came out and shot Mr. Martinez."

Trooper Chaffins says officers have been to the house several times on domestic violence calls. WHAS11 knocked on the door to speak to the mother but she had no comment.

Pile says Martinez was a friendly neighbor but remembers him fighting often with his wife.

"I never did see him hit on her or nothing but he never did do nothing to me," Pile said.

State Police did not reveal the teen's identity since he will be in juvenile court.
