LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- For the first time, we're hearing from an ex-girlfriend of a man who's admitted to the brutal rape and murder of a 17-year-old girl in Clark County, Ind.
“Rapist murder, sex offender, I never knew any of it,” Patsy McCain, Hooten’s ex-girlfriend said.
The woman who dated Hooten says she was in the dark about her ex-boyfriend’s true character.
Patsy McCain told WHAS she dated Hooten from the end of August until the day after Christmas, but she says he was going by a different name. It wasn't until she saw him on TV arrested as "Richard Hooten" for raping and killing a Clarksville teenager that she learned who he really was.
“David Cook, it's what everybody knew him by, he was not going by Richard Hooten,” Patsy said.
Customers at the neighboring bar O'Dolly's where Hooten and Patsy were regulars also know him as David Cook. They, like Patsy, say he was a quiet man who seemed nice.
But her opinion of him soon changed when she says he shoved her during an argument and she kicked him out. A week later on New Year’s Day she heard a rumor that he had raped a woman.
“She was giving him a ride home, He took her to O'Dolly's, raped her and beat her up,” Patsy said.
In a bizarre news conference, Hooten admitted to raping a middle aged woman at that bar. LMPD confirms they are investigating a sexual assault there. The 49-year-old’s been convicted of rape and aggravated sodomy in Georgia and served time for sexual battery in Clark County, Ind. as recently as 2009.
