LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Firefighters are on the scene of a fire that broke out at a day care near the intersection of 42nd and Broadway streets.

The fire started around 4:30 a.m. at Our Angels Christian Child Care Center.

WHAS11's Gene Kang is on the scene and said a man was in the building when the fire broke out but escaped without injury.

Firefighters said the day care was on the first floor of the building and the man live in an apartment on the second floor.

Louisville Fire and Rescue Col. Jeff Botner said it appears the fire started in the attic and electric wiring may have sparked the blaze.

Broadway is shut down in the area surrounding the scene.

We will continue to update this story with more information as it becomes available.
