Area shelters prepare for frigid temps

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)— A warming shelter will be opened in Elizabethtown offering shelter to anyone in need during upcoming frigid temperatures.

According to a press release from the Elizabethtown Fire Department, The Pritchard Community Center will be operating as a warming shelter beginning at 5 p.m. on January 5 until January 7, depending on need.

If officials find no one to be utilizing the warming shelter, it will be closed.

The Red Cross is donating supplies, such as cots and blankets.  There will also be hot coffee to help those attending to stay warm.

Fire Department personnel will staff the event.  Residents are encouraged to volunteer and anyone is welcome to use the shelter.

No food will be provided, due to Health Department regulations.
