LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The concrete pour for the west portion of the waterline footing for Tower 5 of the Downtown Crossing occurred Saturday, October 26.
This was the first mass concrete pour for the Downtown Crossing. The pour began around 9 a.m. and continued for several hours.
More than 500 cubic yards of concrete were poured, requiring the installation of a cooling system.
Pipes were embedded in the concrete, with water pumped through the pipes to cool the concrete and prevent cracks.
The concrete pour for the east portion of the waterline footing for Tower 5 is expected in November.
The pouring of the lower cross beam and leg pedestals is expected this winter.
The first Tower 5 leg sections are expected to be poured in spring 2014.
