Downtown Columbus apartment fire causes estimated $25,000 in damage

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WHAS11) -- The Columbus Fire Department responded to a report of a residential house fire in the 900 block of Washington Street around 8 a.m. Sunday. 

Firefighters quickly arrived on scene and used thermal imaging equipment to pinpoint the source of the fire and within minutes had the fire under control. 

According to Battalion Chief Tim Hughes, initial information gathered by frontline firefighters points to an electrical problem in the ceiling area of the residence. 

An official cause will not be determined until fire inspectors investigate further. 

No one was injured during the incident and damage to the building is estimated  to be around $25,000.
