LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The 8-month-old collie that was found shot in the face in Owensboro, Kentucky underwent surgery in Louisville to keep him alive.
The Blue Pearl Medical Clinic and The Arrow Fund are working in tandem to save Lad.
Surgery this weekend removed part of the jaw that had been destroyed by what they believe were three gunshots.
His new caretakers are amazed he survived at all. He is unable to eat or even drink with his jaw in pieces. They said he has likely been that way for days.
Lad weighs only 41 pounds, his fur masks his emaciated body.
Surgery will repair his jaw, but it will be a long process to heal completely.
The Arrow Fund takes on the worst cases of animal abuse and this is certainly one of them.
It's one step at a time for Lad and the search is on in Owensboro to find out who could do such a thing.
