LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Louisville Metro Dive Team was called to Bardstown to search a pond near an exit ramp where Officer Jason Ellis was reportedly ambushed on his way home from work.

Kentucky State Police said a privately donated K-9 unit was used earlier Thursday at the scene of the fatal shooting and  the K-9 led police to a nearby pond.

Norman Chaffins with the Kentucky State Police, says no items of evidentiary value were found at the pond on Thursday.

Ellis was shot and killed on an exit ramp from the Bluegrass Parkway when he pulled over in Nelson County to remove some tree limbs that were blocking the road, that's when he was ambushed.

Investigators said they believe more than one person is responsible for his murder.
