MEADE CO., Ky. (WHAS11) -- The Meade County Sheriff's deputy who lost his son in a double murder-suicide is talking Monday, Nov. 25.

Phillip Wimpee’s 13-year-old son Tucker was shot and killed earlier in November along with his mother; police say the mother's fiancé than shot himself.

"I asked Tucker, why don't you just stay with me until your mother and this man get their problems worked out...and Tucker's exact words are ‘you don't understand. I need to be with my mom,’" Phillip Wimpee said.

Warren Tripp, who was Cain's live-in boyfriend, is accused of killing them before taking his own life.
Wimpee had tried to get custody of his son because of concerns he had about Tripp.
