JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) -- A Southern Indiana man accused of raping and killing a teenage girl in Clark County, Indiana was in court on Thursday.

Richard Hooten appeared in court, accused of strangling 17-year-old Tara Willenborg at her Cambridge Square apartment off Kopp Lane last March.

The prosecution was seeking the death penalty against Hooten, but the defense made a motion to drop it.

The defense also motioned for a trial date in 2015.

The trial date had been set for November 12, but that has now been continued.
