LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Inside The Back Door bar in the Highlands you’ll find billiards to play, spirits to sip and the most familiar thing is the people. The regulars are painted on the wall, but the owner says a man seen in surveillance video from Monday night is not one of them.

“Pretty brazen to be able to sit here and have a meal, drink a beer and steal somebody else's money,” said owner John Dant.

Dant said the man stole an entire tip jar. They’re usually chained down, but the one in question came loose.

“Originally he put his hand in to get some money out just to see if he could do it. Then he continued to drag it over just like this and just stuffed it into his jacket,” said Dant.

What was also shocking from the video is that the person sitting next to the man didn’t even notice.

“We just couldn't believe that they did not see this guy take this money,” said Dant.

Dant said only the thief knows how much he got away with, but the tips he took are pooled, meaning everyone gets a share. Now, the entire staff working that night is missing money before the holidays.

“I couldn’t believe it. It's so disrespectful. I mean these people work hard and some people just don’t tip in general,” said Joe Green, a customer.

Dant filed a police report, but doubts his employees will get the money back from the thief, but he does hope.

“He gets embarrassed and humiliated for what he did,” said Dant.
