LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Spending cuts from local, state and federal governments mean less money for many programs and projects. Nowhere are those cuts felt more acutely than by those who serve children with special needs. That's where the WHAS Crusade for Children's funding becomes so crucial.
Members of the WHAS Crusade for Children's Advisory Panel began grant hearings on Tuesday. Agencies, schools and other organizations justify their requests for funding at these hearings. This year, the Crusade received almost $11 million in requests with a projected $5.5 to give out.
Over the next six weeks, members of the Crusade Advisory Panel will meet with 223 groups who are requesting Crusade funding.
