JEFFERSON CO., Ky. (WHAS11) – Multiple crews were called to the scene of a fatal, multi-vehicle crash on I-71 southbound at the Jefferson County and Oldham County line on Tuesday, March 25.
The crash, which involved two commercial vehicles and three passenger vehicles, occurred at mile point 12.5 in Oldham County, about three miles before the Gene Snyder Freeway.
Police said the initial investigation indicated traffic was slowing, or stopped, due to road work. The box truck failed to come to a stop and hit a Chrysler 200 being operated by 48-year-old Sherri Bray, from Pendleton, forcing the vehicle under the semi trailer. Bray died at the scene from the injuries she sustained, according to police.
Three people were injured and transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The road was closed for multiple hours as crews worked to clear the crash.
Traffic was detoured via KY 153 over to US 42. Motorists were advised to take the US 42 to the Gene Snyder Freeway in Jefferson County.
Police, fire and EMS were on the scene and KYTC helped with traffic control.
Investigators said there will be no charges and there was no indication alcohol or drugs were involved.
