LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Unsuspecting customers walked into the Michaels craft store on Westport Road on Sunday and eight of them walked out with a free gift card.
“Maybe we'll see them helping somebody, maybe we'll see them looking like they need some help and we will go up and give them a gift card from anywhere from $5 to $25 today,” Kathy Lewis, store manager said.
It’s part of Random Acts of Kindness Day started by the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation. Rita Simms was the first customer at the store to receive one of the gift cards.
“I think it’s great, totally unexpected. It's a nice gesture. I just came in to look around, so I’ll spend this and do something nice for someone else,” Simms said.
Michael’s stores across the nation gave away $100,000 total in gift cards hoping to inspire others to do something nice for someone else.
“If you’re driving in traffic, how many times does someone cut you off? Well, slow down and let them get in front of you today,” Lewis said.
