LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Police are investigating the city's latest homicide after 24-year-old Brandon Shackelford was shot to death inside a car at Cox's Park off River Road early Monday morning.

Police said a patrol officer found Shackelford around 2:30 a.m., but investigators are now saying they don't believe he was killed at the park, but actually starts back in Fern Creek.

Around 1 a.m. officers were called to the 8500 block of Buelah Church Court in Fern Creek for reports of a robbery/shooting. Apparently, Shackelford and his cousin were driving and had picked up a third man.

According to the cousin, the man supposedly demanded money and the car and shot the victim in the head twice. The cousin ran from the car onto Buelah Church Court screaming for help and the shooter drove off in the car with the body.  Meanwhile, a short time later police find the car abandoned in Cox park with the body.

LMPD dive team is searching the area for possible evidence. They say that's standard when something happens near water.

The KFC Yum Center and Centerplate Foods confirm the victim worked for Centerplate in food service at the KFC Yum! Center.
