Conway to announce 2015 plans this week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway (D) plans to announce his 2015 gubernatorial run this week, as early as Tuesday, sources familiar with Conway's plans tell WHAS11.

The two-term Kentucky Attorney General is expected to name Rep. Sannie Overly (D-Paris), the Majority Caucus Chair, as his running mate.

Conway's campaign website,, now redirects visitors to the website  The new website, however, is not yet public.

On Friday, Conway told WHAS11 that he would make an announcement, "soon."

A spokeswoman, Allison Martin, declined comment on Monday evening.

Conway is restricted by Kentucky law from running for a third term as Attorney General.  Toward the end of his first term, Conway lost a closely fought race for the U.S. Senate against Republican Rand Paul.

Former auditor Crit Luallen, a Conway friend, announced her decision not to run for governor, a week and a half ago.

Auditor Adam Edelen said Friday he would wait to announce his 2015 intentions until after his office completes an audit of Jefferson County Public Schools, expected later this month.

Other potential Democratic candidates include former lieutenant governor Daniel Mongiardo, House Speaker Greg Stumbo and former U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler.

Republican Hal Heiner and running mate KC Crosbie were the first to declare for the governor's race.  Agriculture Commissioner James Comer is expected to enter the GOP primary and philanthropist Cathy Bailey, the former U.S. Ambassador to Latvia, is also considering the race.
