LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Louisville Metro Police call it one of the more complex homicide cases they have seen lately. A young mother was gunned down over the weekend in front of her apartment with her 11-year-old daughter upstairs.

A small memorial is in place right now outside the home of Dominique Carter-Bryant.

"I saw my daughter out there laying on the ground and if you are a mother or a parent that is the most horrendous site I even seen in my life to see my child laying there I don't know I don't know," Belinda Carter, the victim's mother said.

Dominique Carter-Bryant, 30, was gunned down at her apartment on 22nd and Magazine Saturday morning. She was coming home when she was shot.

"What we are doing is making sure we are following up on every lead, making sure that we follow through with everything and with the family and keep them informed. Obviously, if there was something that concerned us we would let them know," Barry Wilkerson with Louisville Metro Police Homicide Division said.

On Monday afternoon police made another plea to the public to call in with information about the murder. The victim was alone and there are no eyewitnesses to the crime. The police would not tell us exactly where Bryant was coming from at 6 in the morning, but, her mother told us she was leaving a get together with friends.

"At this point we don't think anyone was with her. Again, not sure of the circumstances why it occurred. If we try to focus to narrow this early on in the investigation so we keep a broad investigative approach when we look at our fresh cases," Wilkerson said.

The is Louisville's second homicide of the year, a case even police say is more difficult than others.

"She was a good person, a good mother, a loving person why would anybody take my child like this. They just shot her who knows how many times," Belinda Carter said.
