Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - The civil trial of Jason Stinson could be delayed after his attorneys filed an appeal Thursday.

Stinson's attorneys are appealing Judge Mitchell Perry's decision not to dismiss the civil lawsuit.

Stinson was the coach of Pleasure Ridge Park high school's football team when one of his players collapsed and later died during a hot practice.

The parents of that player, Max Gilpin, have filed a lawsuit against Stinson and five other assistant coaches.

Stinson was acquitted on criminal charges connected to Gilpin's death.

This appeal would likely affect the start of the civil trial, which is slated to begin in early June.
