One of Louisville’s best known restaurants has suddenly closed its doors and the economy plus the closure of a local bridge is being blamed.

WHAS11 News has learned that the operators of the Chick Inn on River Road in Harrods Creek shut the place down on Sunday.

One operator, Sharon Sheer, told us that the landlord has also asked for an increase starting March 1st that they couldn't meet.

The landlord and owner of the property, Judy Parr, told us she has no hard feelings and that the business also suffered when the economy tanked and the city closed the Harrods Creek Bridge into Prospect.

The restaurant dates back 80 years, but the current building is new.

The restaurant was destroyed in a 2002 fire and reopened in October of 2004. Shortly after reopening, longtime operator Kathy Dollinger retired and sold the business and the name to the current operators.

Sheer and the other operators of the Chick Inn own the name and could use it elsewhere if they choose.

Right now, Sheer told WHAS11 News they plan to put the furniture in storage and sit-out the restaurant business for 30 days before deciding what’s next.

A sign out front thanks the longtime customers who were regulars in Harrods Creek.
