LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A newborn baby and her mother are OK after being rescued during an apartment fire in Buechel.
An elderly woman was also saved and the person who got her out safely is being called something very special by his neighbors.
His name is Terry. And he is so quiet that he didn't want to talk to us about what happened Sunday night, June 23.
Burned pictures, damaged jewelry and memories are left in the front lawn of these apartments of Beechbrook Drive and Beechbrook Court off Fegenbush Lane in Buechel.
The fire started in an apartment in the kitchen. The fire chief said an elderly woman, who was saved, left food on the stove and that's what caused the fire.
“She's the neighborhood grandma she's an elderly woman,” Shauna Nation, a neighbor, said. “I don't see how she is going to rebuild from all this.”
Nation describes what happened when the fire broke out.
“Terry comes knocking on the door and he comes out and says fire,” Nation said. “We grab buckets full of water and by the time we ran over here she was actually trapped in the back of her bedroom; the flames had already taken over the front part,”
It was a fire scene that could have been worse.
