(WHAS11) -- Fifty Oldham County School District employees will be saying goodbye to their jobs; at least 25 of those will be teachers.
Two hundred more will see salary reductions. At Monday night’s meeting, the school board outlined the plan for filling a three million dollar budget deficit.
Superintendent Dr. Will Wells says the affected positions will be district wide. The goal, he says, was to make the reductions with minimal cuts to instruction.
Some of the 50 positions will be eliminated as employees leave or retire, but a portion will be layoffs.
Terminated employees will receive a notice by May 15. In the fall the district is also expected to call for a property tax increase that would cost the owners of $100,000 home an extra $44 a year.
