Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) – In Montana 1 person is dead and 2 others were hurt after at least 1 bear when on a rampage near Yellowstone National Park.
The victims were asleep in their tents when the bears attacked.
Today crews have set up traps for the bears.
The victims were all experienced campers. Yellowstone officials do not believe they were doing anything wrong.
Deb Freele survived the bear attack and described her ordeal.
“Something inside me said I want to live and I told myself, play dead. And I went totally limp and as soon as I went limp, I could feel his jaws get loose and then he let me go and he went away,” she said.
The odds of a bear attack are low. Just 1 in 1 point 9 million.
In Red River Gorge last month an experienced hiker was attacked by a bear. Another camper in the same Yellowstone campground was attacked 2 years ago.
