BARDSTOWN, Ky. (WHAS11) – Moving forward from the murder of Bardstown Police Officer Jason Ellis last month, the city is planning to fill his position soon.

Ellis was shot and killed on May 25 and no arrests have been made.

Bardstown Mayor Bill Sheckles told the Kentucky Standard newspaper that he and police Chief Rick McCubbin would like to hire another officer to fill Ellis’ open position.

The department is authorized to have 27 officers but only have 25 due to another officer being deployed overseas.

The community of Bardstown also continues to rally around Officer Ellis’ family.

An event is planned for Saturday evening at the Talbot Tavern hosted by the Moonshine Millionaires to raise money.

Next week, the River City Fraternal Order of Police will also hold a benefit for the family here in Louisville.
