LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A lot has happened since the Monday night, Aug.12, home invasion murder of Paul "PJ" Barber.
Police say he was in his apartment with his 1-week-old son, fiancée, and two other adults when four people busted his door open and later gunned Barber down. His visitation is Friday night, Aug. 16, in Springfield, Ky. Some of PJ's close friends say they know the men who have been arrested so far and that envy is the main motive.
People in PJ's inner circle say he knew his killers.
“We used to party with them. We used to all hang out. We all have pictures,” friend Angela Hawkins said.
“He was their best friend and they wanted to do this to him for what reason,” another friend, Madison Eskridge, said.
His friends speculate jealousy. They say in the last year or so, PJ had drifted away from those young men.
“PJ didn’t want to have anything to do with them. He knew they were nothing but no good,” friend Madison Eskridge said.
So far, police have nabbed three of the four suspects. Shakahakeen Boyd, 21, was arrested Wednesday night and arraigned Friday morning. On Thursday night two detectives attempted to approach 21-year-old Jevon Curry. He opened fire on the officers and was subsequently shot multiple times. He's still recovering at University Hospital. At around 3 p.m. on Thursday, police pulled over 20-year-old Charles Washington.
PJ’s friends want whoever else murdered their friend to be found.
“Once they catch the last person we will all be relieved. None of us had drama. If it was drama it was a petty argument here and there,” Hawkins said. Though they aren't sure who exactly that fourth person is, his friends are confident another arrest is imminent.
“The three they have arrested they stuck together, so they'll get that fourth person,” Hawkins said.
