LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Five members of the Metro Council have begun the process of removal for councilwoman Barbara Shanklin who was found in violation of ethics rules.
It will be up to those five members to convince the other 20 council members that Shanklin should be removed from office. They will take the findings of the Metro Ethics Commission, which recommended Shanklin's removal. They will also have subpoena power to talk to people who have not been heard from yet, which may include Shanklin herself.
The Ethics Commission found that Shanklin misused neighborhood development funds and grant money and that she paid wages to her grandson while he was in jail.
WHAS11's Chelsea Rabideau is following this developing story and will have much more throughout the evening newscasts.
