(WHAS11) -- The Ballard Girls' Varsity Soccer team played against Sacred Heart in the regional tournament on Tuesday night. It was their first game without their head coach.

Brian Walters, 38, died in a car crash in Spencer County on Monday morning on his way to work at Bullitt East High School.

The team joined in a circle and held hands before the game. They wore red bands on their wrists in honor of Walters.

"Every practice, every game, he always wore a red watch and we all have one on tonight," Senior Sheela Felli said.

Ballard lost to Sacred Heart, but their opponents gave each girl a rose after the game.

Walters will be laid to rest on Saturday.
