(WHAS11) -- Local attorney Teddy Gordon has filed a motion with the Kentucky Supreme Court that he hopes will end Jefferson County’s student assignment plan.
Gordon is asking the high court to not hear the district’s objection to a recent appeals court ruling.
The appeals court said that children do have the right to go to the school closest to their home.
Currently the district’s student assignment plan works to achieve diversity by sending students from different socio-economic backgrounds to school together - not always in their neighborhood.
If the Supreme Court does not hear the districts arguments -- than the appeals court ruling would stand and JCPS would have to devise a new plan.
