LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Volunteers spent the day Sunday preparing Christmas meals for those in need this holiday season. Chefs told WHAS1 they served about 600 meals today at the Salvation Army Center of Hope.

They came complete with turkey, homemade gravy, carrots and mashed potatoes and organizers say they had so many volunteers show up that some of them were working out of the kitchen.

“We have enough volunteers today that our people are getting table side service. We actually have people bringing them their meals like it was a restaurant,” said a volunteer.

All children who had a Christmas dinner at the Salvation Army Center received toys for the holiday.
