LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Fire crews were called to the scene of a fire at Salem Square Condominiums in the 500 block of Zorn Avenue Thursday afternoon.
It took 33 firefighters and 19 minutes to get the blaze under control.
“I just kind of looked outside and saw the fire trucks. I walked outside and saw all of the smoke and people and grabbed my dog and got out,” resident Josh Martin said.
An occupant of the apartment suffered minor injuries and is believed to have suffered burns while trying to put out the blaze himself.
“We had one occupant that was in the apartment, he did get out on his own but he had minor burns and transported to a local hospital,” Lt. Col. Jeff Bother of the Louisville Metro Fire Department said.
Crews contained the fire to one apartment and worked to keep water and smoke from damaging the rest.
There were 12 units in the complex where 23 people resided and all but two people were allowed to return.
Investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire.
