Frankfort, Ky. (WHAS11)- Anti-coal supporters are rallying in Frankfort to praise an EPA decision to reject 36 coal mining permits in Kentucky.
But the state is opposing the move, and that has received the attention of Kentucky Senator and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
"Simply put, my constituents are under siege from the Obama administration's regulatory agenda and the EPA is the worst offender,” says McConnell.
McConnell says the rejection under the clean water act hurts the coal industry, and its 18,000 workers in Kentucky.
But coal opponents say if the state goes against the EPA, the water quality and health of Kentuckians will be endangered.
There are two rallies set for Tuesday night.
