(WHAS11) - I-65 was shut down near the Seymour exit after an INDOT employee was killed Thursday when his vehicle was struck by a semi while he was diverting traffic around another accident. Three accidents in total caused I-65 to be closed near the Seymour exit for most of the day Thursday.

In the first accident, a car spun out on ice, then hit a median wall and bumped into a semi-truck. No one was injured in this.

An INDOT worker came along to help divert traffic around the accident.  That's when a second semi driven by 50-year-old Robert A. Burger of Louisville crashed into the INDOT vehicle killing the worker.

The INDOT vehicle was trapped under the semi and both caught fire.

Burger was not injured.  Witnesses say they saw Burger drive through the orange triangles set up by the INDOT employee in the right lane and the truck may have been going 75 mph, with no signs of stopping.

A third accident involving an overturned semi resulted in the northbound lanes being closed again but they have since reopened.
