HODGENVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A central Ky. Marine killed in Afghanistan was "a big kid" who, family and friend say, had the ability to make others feel safe around him.
The Rev. Norm Brock recalled Marine Lance Cpl. Matthias Hanson's personality and committment to service during the soldier's funeral on Saturday.
The Elizabethtown News-Enterprise reports that a funeral service for Hanson took place Saturday at LaRue County High School's gymnasium. The 20-year-old Hanson died Feb. 21 while serving with the 3/6 Kilo 2nd Battalion Infantry.
Friends remembered Hanson, a 2008 graduate of LaRue County High School, as a football player, member of the Student Technology Association and someone with a sneaky grin that always seemed on the edge of laughter.
