NEW ALBANY, Ind. (AP) — Police in southern Indiana say an officer shot a man after a high-speed chase that crossed into Kentucky and back into Indiana.
Floyd County Prosecutor Keith Henderson says 21-year-old James Wells of Jeffersonville was shot once in each arm by an officer when Wells tried to drive his car toward the officer. Wells was listed in fair condition at a Louisville, Ky., hospital.
Police say the chase began about 1:30 a.m. Monday after a state trooper tried to stop Wells in Jeffersonville because his car had no license plate light. They say Wells drove onto Interstate 65 into Kentucky, then switched to I-64 and returned to Indiana.
Police say the chase continued on several Floyd County roads, with Wells' car hitting three squad cars before he was stopped.
