MOUNT STERLING, Ky. (AP) — A group of middle school basketball players in central Kentucky have been charged with assault for allegedly hazing some younger teammates.
Montgomery County Schools superintendent Daniel Freeman says six seventh-grade students were charged with assault in juvenile court. Freeman says the students were involved in some rough horseplay, but the two sixth-graders involved were not seriously hurt.
Freeman says officials at McNabb Middle School in Mount Sterling learned about the incident a week ago. The players were suspended for three games, but they're back on the playing court this week.
He says he expects the six players to be placed on probation by the juvenile court.
