FORT KNOX, Ky. (AP) — Fort Knox is celebrating the opening of its new Behavioral Health Center that will treat soldiers for the mental stresses of military service.

Medical leaders at the Army post in central Kentucky say creating a separate clinic shows the Army's commitment to providing mental health services. At a ceremony Friday, the commander of Fort Knox's hospital said soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan have dealt with hardships they never expected. Fort Knox has seven staff psychiatrists.

About 80-100 soldiers are seen each day for mental health services at the post. The new clinic is in a renovated building. Mental health services were previously located on a one-floor wing at the hospital.

Friday's ceremony included a moment of silence for the victims of a mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, where an Army psychiatrist is suspected opening fire on fellow soldiers.
