JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Two southern Indiana police officers who were shot and seriously wounded in a motel ambush have returned to work nine months after the shooting.

Jeffersonville Patrolman Keith Broady and Cpl. Dan Lawhorn returned to work Monday. They had been on leave since February's shooting at a Jeffersonville motel.

Jeffersonville's mayor says the officers' return is a positive step toward full recoveries. For now, both men will perform undisclosed light duties.

Broady, who's 33, was shot in the chest and 40-year-old Lawhorn was shot in the leg Feb. 19 as they responded to a call about suspected drug activity at a motel in Jeffersonville.

The gunman, 37-year-old Robert Datillo, committed suicide the next day during a police standoff in nearby Louisville, Ky.
