1000 doses of the H1N1 nasal flu mist vaccine have arrived in Clark County.
And healthcare providers are the first recipients.
Mike Meyers, Administrator, Clark Co. Health Dept. "It will be going to those individuals in those doctors offices, staff and probably some of their patients that are eligible to take it in certain H1N1 priority groups."
And this Thursday he says the state will know how many more doses of the vaccine they're allotted and Clark Co. will find out their share of that number. They hope to order more next week.
Across the river at Jewish Hospital -- they didn't even bother with ordering the nasal flu mist vaccine. They'll wait for the shot -- because although the flu mist vaccine is recommended for healthy people ages 2 to 46 -- it is not recommended for some people in the target risk groups because it is a live virus.
Lynn Simon/Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Jewish Hospital and St. Mary's Healthcare: "Certain workers including pregnant women and those over 49, 50 and over can't receive it. So there are certain populations of our team members that can't receive it, that it's not recommended for."
And as it's been all along -- exactly when and how many doses that any healthcare agency will receive throughout this flu season, remains to be seen.
