Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - It's called the 400 campaign.? It is a big number with an important goal; find 400 volunteers to match up with young people in Kentuckiana in need of a mentor.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana kicked off their campaign with some new information about the need here at home.
As you know, every Thursday night at 5:30 p.m., WHAS11? profiles some of the matches and we also show you young people still on that waiting list. It's a project we launched with the organization 20 years ago.
There are more boys than girls on the waiting list and the average wait is taking five and half months to find a volunteer.
Director Jeri Swinton says the campaign's goal is to get rid of the waiting list by the end of this year.
So how about heading to a ballgame, seeing a movie or play or walking in the park?
What you do, your little brother or little sister can do as well. It's only a few hours a month.
You must pass a background check.
