(WHAS11) - A Bullitt East football player remains in critical condition after suffering a brain injury.
?
Exactly how he was injured is still a mystery, but the students and staff at Bullitt East are rallying around the teen who's future is uncertain.
?
Get well wishes, notes of "I miss you" and messages of love fill a banner signed by students Wednesday for 17-year-old Jesse Bratcher.
Bratcher is at University Hospital. He had emergency surgery after it was determined he suffered a brain injury.
?
Bratcher was playing a JV football game on Monday when coaches noticed he seemed to be a daze.
?
He'd also played in a varsity football game on Saturday.
?
His football family and his school are standing together to support him. One school staffer started a scrapbook for Bratcher, which she says allows student to come and write their own messages to him.
?
Students are aware of the challenges Bratcher faces but hope their words go a long way.
?
It's still unclear exactly how Bratcher was injured. It is unknown if he was hurt during a play before coaches noticed something was wrong or if he was injured before that.
?
Friends of Bratcher have set up a fund to help with medical expenses through National City Bank.
?
Donations may be made in the name of "The Jesse Bratcher Fund" in care of any National City Bank branch.
