WHAS 11-Wayside Christian Mission is still fighting to open a homeless shelter in the middle of downtown Louisville.

Today supporters of the new shelter came out to a zoning meeting carrying signs that said "don't zone out the poor."

The mission is working to get the proper zoning so they can open a women and families shelter at the sight on 2nd and Broadway at the old Hotel Louisville location.

Wayside's Nina Moseley said, "We have that wonderful facility sitting there and we really want to have our women and families in their by this winter when the bad weather comes so we are moving ahead and preparing to do what we need to do to utilize that building."

Wayside now has to re-submit their application with the county for the proper zoning.

The zoning board will review this and make a decision at a later date.
