Louisvile, Ky (WHAS11) - Major restoration work is now full gear as the Kentucky Derby museum remains closed indefinitely following last week's massive flooding.
The museum had 10 inches of water in the basement and about 100 pieces of the museum's collection will have to be repaired or restored.
No major pieces were lost and the majority of the damage was to paintings.
To save the pieces, 31 museum staff members moved nearly 2,000 items in less than two hours in the dark.
"I think the miracle, the phenomenal thing about it is how much the employees and the team that we have here care about what it is we do, says Executive Director Lynn Ashton.
There is no final figure on damage estimates but it is around $4 million.
