(WHAS11) - A new library in Louisville's Newburg neighborhood means more than just a place to read and learn.
The Newburg Public Library is the first one to be built since merger. The neighborhood has never had one and for its residents the new library means a lot.
Jonathan Hickman and his twin brother Jordan already love with the Newburg Public Library.
And while they will have access to thousands of new books, right now, their favorite part is the high tech experience.
The twins and their classmates got to tour the library with Mayor Jerry Abramson today.
Rangeland Elementary school Principal Mashelle Kiggins is glad they all love the library learning experience because that means other children at her school will soon follow. And Kiggins says the new facility will open a world of opportunity for children in the neighborhood.
Mayor Abramson was on hand for the 'sneak peak' today as well. He checked out the facility with the children and says the library which is the first to open since the city/county merger will be a significant part of the Newburg area.
Mayor Abramson said, "This will be a vibrant community asset for the entire neighborhood."
The computers that were purchased for the library had been destroyed in the flood because they were being stored in the basement of the main library. The library foundation didn't want the Newburg Public Library to open tomorrow without computers, so they purchased the replacements for 50 thousand dollars.
