(WHAS11) - Trials of a new H1N1 vaccine started Monday in eight cities across the country, including Cincinnati.
Volunteers receive a series of shots, some of which are stronger than others.
They are paid $75 for each visit.
Some volunteers say it's not all about the money.
"I think the monetary bonus is a nice thing, you also have to think about it in regards to humanity purposes," says one volunteer.
Doctors say the trials are safe but potential side effects to the vaccine include fever, allergic reactions and a remote chance of paralysis or even death.
Early safety results of the trials should be available next month.
