Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - Kathy Renbarger, who works at the American Heart Association, doesn't know her numbers but she wants to.
With a simple prick of the finger, her blood goes in a machine for about 7 minutes and gives her the vital information.
It is a test you can get done at the Norton Women's Heart Center to help assess your heart.
While she waits for cholesterol numbers, Kathy then gets her blood pressure checked.
Theresa Byrd checks both arms to make sure there are no big differences in numbers, which is a possible red flag signaling blockages.
Total cholesterol should be less than 200 and Kathy's falls well below it; good cholesterol or HDL.
HDL should be above 60. Good cholesterol helps protect against heart disease and you want that number to be higher. It's the LDL that should be lower.
Bad cholesterol should be less than 100 and Kathy's was 68.
Kathy's triglyceride levels were normal as well, making for a good check up.
For Kathy, the numbers have added up on her side. Positive changes she has made in her life with exercise and food choices are paying off.
The test is normally $40, but right now Norton Women's Heart Center is offering it for $30 if you register before August 31st.
Registration is required, the phone number to call is 629-1234.
Once you get your numbers you can enter them into the Go Red for Women website and it will send you recipes and heart healthy information.
